I used to know a country which was well-known for being peaceable. Unlike its southern neighbour, this country was not looking for reasons to quarrel and fight with other countries. It was not surprising that it was a safe land for war refugees; those who were looking for a safe shelter and a peaceful life in a corner of the world far away from the sufferings and pains of their homeland. By this country, I mean Canada — a country that does not exist anymore; a Canada which did not accompany its southern neighbour, the ever-ready-to-fight Yankees, in invading overseas; a Canada whose envoys were the ambassadors of peace and friendship all over the world; a Canada that had a reasonable, logical relationship with the rest of the world and avoided any extremism and interference in regional crises. That was why its subjects were popular worldwide, and why the subjects of its southern neighbor used its flag on their belongings in their overseas trips so that the Canadian popularity kept any harm from them.

This Canada, which does not exist anymore, was concerned about its reputation in the world, worried about the environment and what greedy opportunists do to it, and a pioneer in regional and global activities to preserve the environment. It did not have any enemies, so it did not have to have bombs and rockets, or a costly army, or to spend millions of dollars from the pockets of its hard working people on aircrafts which exist only on paper

The country of Canada which does not exist anymore used to respect its own people and their opinions and would take public opinion seriously. The Canada I used to know made efforts to secure the interests of all Canadians, not just a small number of them. The Canada that we have lost used to believe in the equality of opportunities for all people who wanted to immigrate to this country. It would not mistreat the people who thought it their land of wishes. The Canada I used to know believed that over the course of its short history, it had been immigrants from different ethnic backgrounds, along with its first dwellers, who built this country and that if its economy is running well, this is due to the endeavors of its immigrant citizens.

We lost Canada after Harper and his comrades took power. This new government had different concerns and intentions. It was not concerned about our reputation and honesty anymore. It now believes that having a bad reputation is better than being unknown. Neither worldwide nor Canadian public opinion is important now in governmental decisions. Billions of dollars have been spent on purchasing weapons and the environment has lost its significance for the benefit of oil companies belonging to fellows and partners of this party. Immigration applicants have been treated unfairly and faced with new problems daily. The sad part is that this story still continues.

We have lost our Canada and the current Canada is a country which tries to be part of any crises in the world. And this part is always one that many fair and freedom-seeking people think less dignified. The most important decisions for its relationship with the world are made in the Middle East and all that really matters is what the commander-country, i.e., Israel, wants. As this has been written, Mr. Prime Minister has gone to Tel Aviv for one week to complete his unfinished services to Israel. He is going to get an honorary PhD for all the services he has done for eight years — services for which he has not been appreciated whatsoever. A park has been named after him and he has had the honor to give a speech in their most important governmental institution in order to speak of his loyalty to this Middle Eastern state. We should wait for him to return to see what he will bring back from there for the abandoned people of a country named Canada, one which no longer exists.
